• What it's for

  A weather app tells you what the sky is doing at home. Velvind tells you what it does on your ride: it times the route from your usual speed, the climbs and the wind, then reads the forecast at every point at the minute you get there. The answer is when to leave, which way round to ride, and whether you're home before dark. How it works

• Where the forecast comes from

  Hourly forecasts from Open-Meteo for every 11 km patch of sky along the route, nine days ahead. In the Nordics, the app reads the next two hours from MET Norway's radar nowcast. Velvind processes this data to read your ride; neither source endorses Velvind.

• Your routes and your data

  Routes come from Strava, a GPX, TCX or FIT file, or a Ride with GPS link. A route from Strava is shown only to you: a share link or a group ride never carries its line. No advertising, no selling or sharing of your data, no third-party trackers. Privacy

  

• What it costs

  Velvind will be a paid app, with a week's trial. The price comes with the App Store launch. Riders pay for it, so it never needs advertising or your data.
