Know when to ride. The ride forecast for cyclists.

Velvind forecasts your ride kilometre by kilometre: the wind, rain, cold and daylight at the minute you get there. You'll see when to leave, which way round to ride, and whether you're home before dark.

Velvind for iPhone is coming to the App Store. One email when it's out, nothing else.

See it on a real ride

Krokskogen, 88 km, Tuesday 10:00: the wind along the ride, a tailwind home.

Kilometre 60 has its own weather.

A ride moves through the day and across the map. Velvind times yours first, from your usual speed, the climbs and the wind, then reads the forecast where you'll be at each minute of it.

  • Headwind on the way home?

The wind is turned against the way the road points, kilometre by kilometre, and your time is worked out with it. Velvind says which part of the ride is into it: the way out, the way home, or none of it. When the wind turns during the ride, it says if the loop is kinder the other way round.

  • Will it rain on me?

Rain where you are when it falls, not where you started: 25 minutes of showers near Sollihøgda from 15:48, on the Saturday below, if you leave at 13:00.

  • Back before dark?

Your finish time against sunset, and the minute you'll need lights on the way home.

  • When should I leave?

Every half hour of the next nine days, read the same way. marks the kindest start of the day and of the week.

Same loop. Different ride.

Krokskogen is 88 km from Majorstuen: out by Bærums Verk, over the forest to Sundvollen, home along the fjord. Drag the start. On Saturday the showers arrive in the afternoon; on Tuesday the wind turns round after lunch.
